Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – October 23, 2025
The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has officially joined the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) — a global coalition of central banks and financial supervisors headquartered at the Banque de France in Paris. The NGFS is dedicated to promoting sustainable finance and addressing climate-related financial risks.
This milestone marks a significant step in NBE’s ongoing commitment to advancing green finance and supporting Ethiopia’s transition toward a resilient and environmentally sustainable economy.
As a member of the NGFS, NBE will work alongside more than 149 central banks and financial regulators worldwide to integrate climate and environmental considerations into financial supervision, monetary policy, and risk management practices.
Established in 2017, the NGFS plays a pivotal role in guiding central banks and financial supervisors globally to align financial systems with sustainability objectives, strengthen climate-related risk management, and mobilize financing for sustainable development.
