The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) is delighted to welcome H.E. Dr. Eyob Tekalign Tolina (PhD) as its new Governor.
Dr. Eyob brings to the role more than two decades of distinguished service in Ethiopia’s economic development, combining leadership in government, international organizations, and the private sector. He most recently served as State Minister at the Ministry of Finance, where he was instrumental in fiscal management and advancing broad economic reforms. Earlier, as Minister in charge of the National Planning Commission, he oversaw the country’s national development strategies.
Beyond Ethiopia, Dr. Eyob has contributed at the regional and global level with UNECA, COMESA, UNCTAD, the World Bank, and IFC, and has private sector experience as a Director at SGI Frontier Capital, a U.S. investment firm focused on frontier markets.
He earned a master’s degree from George Washington University and a PhD in Political Economy from the University of Maryland’s School of Public Policy.
With his appointment, the NBE reaffirms its mission to safeguard stability, strengthen the financial system, promote financial inclusion, and foster innovation for the long-term growth of Ethiopia’s economy.
