The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) organized an awareness and progress update session on the National ID Program, for all banks.
The workshop was held on 12th March 2024, at the premises of NBE, to all commercial banks high level officials of legal, technology and customer services.
Addressing the workshop, W/ro. Marita Hailemariam, Advisor of V/Governor Financial Stability Cluster, with NBE, asserted the essentiality of the unique national digital identity card.
The advisor urges the banks to manage challenges facing currently with regard to duplication, fake identity, and fraud activity in sector. National digital ID rollout program is so instrumental that the financial institutions, in general, benefit exceedingly, she added.
Ato Yodahe Zemichael, Executive Director of Ethiopia National ID program, on his part explained that, Fayda, National digital ID program is a critical digital infrastructure to realize the digital economy, to advance financial inclusions and to further enhance digital financial services in the country.
The workshop, which was organized in collaboration with the National ID Program of Ethiopia, discussed on various issues raised during presentations on the progress of current Digital ID integration endeavor. The legal mandates, technology updates and cyber security protocols were among others.
